Message Board Issues/technical Problems

Recommended Posts

One thing to keep in mind is the browser you are using and how the big three are transitioning to HTML5 as the basis for layout and such. Current versions of Firefox and Chrome are already there. IE 11 and Edge are already there with "workarounds" to allow for some backwards compatibility.

What does that mean? The format and layout is changing and if the web page layout has not changed or is in process it will impact not just the layout and functionality.

For editing issues, I have found IE 11 to work best for me with "WYSIWYG" editing, and to shut off "WYSIWYG" (switch button in the upper left), for the others. I suspect that this will be an issue for some time as webpages are adjusting.

If you want to know why the browsers are changing so rapidly to the move to HTML5, it all has to do with the exploit vectors from Flash and JavaScript. They are trying "kill" those holes pretty rapidly and I suspect it will be some time before that stabilizes as all are adjusting as well.

My joy to this is the 50+ known websites we deal with similar issues on where I work IRL.

i agree wholeheartedly with everything you say.

(even though i don't understand very much of it)

so funny GT...exactly what I was thinking.

I thought of of that scene in "Back to the Future" when Marty was ready to go back and he's sitting in the DeLorean and he says, "...Flux Capacitor....fluxing", like he literally had no idea what the hell was going on.

I'd like somebody to try to defend the extreme censorship of ideas that goes on here. I acknowledge that the space is privately owned, and that ownership can do what they want. We have no rights here, and if we don't like it we can go away.

But that does not make something, I'm not going to say 'right', but... good. I absolutely understand deleting porn pictures, swearing, name-calling, racist post or anything patently objectionable to society at large. But if we want to conjecture about, oh, I don't know... the legal status and disposition of one of the teams top 3 players (and, to be clear, i have posted next to nothing on the thread or the subject), well so the hell what? Everybody knows it's up in the air, nobody claims to know how it will play out. So we vent, we guess, we conjecture... what is the harm to anybody? Deleting it really just gives it more power than it actually has. I think it's small minded and petty.

I don't need to say "feel free to delete this too", because of course if you want to you don't need my permission.

Go Hawks!

There is the CoC of these boards which applies to all threads.

There were multiple requests to keep the conversation to the facts. The reason for that is that rumor and speculation about a non-ice issue tends to lead to unfounded personal attacks to people involved (which happened very often), or false accusations (which happened many times), and off-topic conversation that is out of bounds for this boards (which happen very often). Basically to help keep the conversation within the CoC.

Off-ice touches into personal territory of the individual(s) as well, and not the focus of this board. That has to be considered with respect to all sides.

To claim censorship of ideas is a broad stroke that is not true. To set a CoC and expect that the conversation is to fit the CoC is not unreasonable. Everyone agrees to the CoC before posting.

To edit your own post?

Both, can't edit a post I'm quoting...

Like I can't "bold"" or "Italicize" something I want to highlight.

Can't change font size/color,

Can't add a pic or video,

In general, can't use any of the functions at the top of "text box". The entire section is greyed out...

I can go back and change a post of my own but only with standard typing.

Are you using any special blockers, or plug-ins?

Haven't seen a poll here in a "coon's age."  I tried to make one but it disappeared when I hit submit never to be seen again.  Is there a new "no polls" policy or did my firefox screw up? There were no error messages and everything in the "make poll" dialog worked. It just didn't end up in Hawk Talk...or anywhere.

Don't know why but ...Firefox 42.0 (the latest I think) quite suddenly refused to execute Quote, Multiquote and post. After a complete system (XP) reboot the problem remains.

I Switched to IE  8.0.6 (XP can't run newer versions) and... while significantly slower... I had no problems with posting (obviously.) It may be an issue with any new board-software updates and the combination XP/Firefox. The combo had been working but It's been awhile since I last posted so I'm not sure how long this problem has actually existed (I first noticed today.) I had been having problems with ads popping up and obscuring almost the entire page... but I think I got that figured out (don't click on apparently empty space.)  <_<

While XP is probably not used by many any more I've had to use an old backup machine until my new Win 10 PC's OS has been installed and my (rather large system) is transfered. Anyone else having this problem? ...is it just XP/Firefox ?
