What To Do With Crawford

I didn't say players don't care. Go back and reread what I said. It seems to me that fans care MUCH more than players do about winning or losing. IN GENERAL. Where did I say they didn't care?

Some certainly have a bigger competitive drive than others -- Michael Jordan comes to mind. But I don't think they don't get as high from winning or as low about losing as the fans do.

Try to appreciate the difference in the point I was making compared to the one you accused me of.

You are correct and didnt say the players didnt care. After the one time I read it, I took it that way with the examples you gave of the smiling and joking, and Kane in the limo incident. All after losses. My bad for taking it that way.

Hutton had a real good season. I am not trying to take away from that. But all the highlights that medic brought up, and there are quite alot of them, most are after Jan 1. (hogs played like crap on new years eve is why I remember the date). After that they put more emphasis on playing D and making the good first pass to get puck out of the zone. The results were huge. The D was there more for the goalies, and Hutton definatly did make some good saves also. I would have to go back and look, but GAA went down more than 1/2 a goal per game, PK improved like 11%, and at one stretch I think they killed something like 94-98 penalties. All from a team effort. The one thing that confuses me is why the hawks only signed Hutton to a 1 yr deal? I would have liked it to be a little longer just because of the situation here.

But the team D that the hogs played is my point, and why I think crawford can be better this season, is if (and i dont know why they couldnt) the hogs can get it and play that way, then why cant the hawks? Even after the D first philosophy, they were still getting a lot of scoring chances, at times outshooting the opposition more than 2-1, sometimes 3-1. I dont think the hawks need more chances to score, or even score. Just figure it out on D

One of my colleagues, when I told him about my point about athletes focus vs. fan focus, he brought up Rob Gronkowski, dancing shirtless in a nightclub after the Pats lost the Super Bowl...and this on what was supposed to have been an injured ankle that hobbled him during the game. It seemed to annoy the fans in New England. But honestly, I can't say I'm surprised. I'm sure he would preferred to win, but losing the Super Bowl wasn't going to ruin his night either! LOL

Seems to me that the fans care MUCH MORE about winning and losing than do professional athletes. It's why (mostly you see it in football), even after a crushing defeat, the players are all out on the field talking to each other, smiling, shaking hands. Or like a couple years back, the famous partying pictures of Kane in the limo outside Vancouver (I think), having a good time...after a loss! I'm not sure that he was thinking much about the game that night.

I'm sure they prefer winning, but in the end, they are all independent businessmen. They are thinking about their next contract. If winning makes them richer, so be it. But I'm doubtful that most players are ranting at each other after a bad loss the way that the fans do in the stands. It's part of the illusion of sports. They NEED our passion to sustain their business model. But the players? Meh. I think winning and losing is of secondary importance to them, with some exceptions. I think they are taught to say the right things to the media, but I truly wonder how much a loss really affects them mentally.

Fans are fickle, reactionary and downright moronic half the time and don't seem to understand that it's not reasonable to expect their team to go 82-0 during the regular season.

Crawford is the easy answer, but really ?

Remember his face and expression in the post game interviews after the two bad OT goals against Phoenix? It was like he had ran over someone in a cross walk.

I never saw that kind look of defeat and shock by a pro athlete before !!- his confidence is shattered beyond repair!! I don't think he can recover.

My guess he is done not just for the Hawks but for the NHL.

If my prediction is correct who will the Hawks have in goal ? I am hoping they give Salak a lot of opportunity

Salak is no longer in the organization after he quit on the Hogs last February.

Well thats too bad that Salak has not progressed he was highly toughted- Crawford has had melt downs too , and I feel bad for the kid. However I predict he will not recove. I hope the Hawks look for a real starter and cash their chips in don't wait on Corey.

If the season ever gets started....

If Corey has trouble and the Hawks need a great goalie, Carter Hutton is with the IceHogs!

I have been watching him this season and he is pretty amazing!! No need to worry about the netminder position, the Hawks have it covered with Hutton in the fold at the Rock!!:P

Is there a reason he is not up in the NHL at 26 ? I hope they try him out and at least make a competitive race for # 1. I don't think Emerey can take the work load or play consistant enough to earn # 1 ( Emerey is good in short stints only )

He hasn't been good enough at this point to play in the NHL (he even played in the ECHL last season). Hutton's been called up for games in Philly and SJ, but he's always been the backup those nights. Hutton could be a late bloomer, and in the event of an injury or bad stretch by Crawford or Emery then why not give him a shot.
