    Hawks Moves 2019-2020

Huh? Colorado looks pretty darn good sure to make the playoffs. So what did I miss? Why does your camp do that every time you think you're losing,oh just trade everyone. The reality is there were more dum moves than good. Stats don't lie I agree Gus ad Perlini can be traded one is little more than a forth forward and the other isn't signed. There is so much going on that we just need to look at more objectively. Is the team better yes I believe it is.. If Smith drops the gloves even once in defense of a teammate especially a goalie then he has earned every penny. Just don't expect him to be a 20 goal 50 point guy not gonna happen. I guess I'm not ready to grab the pom poms. I'm intrigued but certainly not ready to praise the GM. OK Shaw raw raw. That's it I said my piece many times this team still has gaping holes and a whole lot of question marks.

How does anyone argue the obvious only two moves this off season make any sense. Getting Dehaan even though he is injured and bringing Shaw back. The money these two players make in exchange for what they would offer any team is worth the obvious risk. Now let's start with many's favorite Lehner. A good goalie if he stays sober and stays on his meds heck he's as much a risk as Crow. Smith well that's iridiculous trading one issue for another. The team needed the cap relief in my opinion. Carpenter leaves me lukewarm you could spend an extra million in worse places like Smith or Lehner. Matta well "if" he returns to what he was lets hope he does or this could end up being the second worse deal of the summer. Oh the best for last. The Hawks having Wedin, Kubalik. Dach Entwistle and Perlini all young stud forwards in the making go out and trade their best young NHL ready defenseman for an above average minor league player. Pundits and analysts around the league are disrespecting the Hawks not one is talking Hawks in the playoffs or winning the Cup. Outside of maybe Chicago. Think on that maybe even a little

If any team is stupid enough to sign Lehner for big money 7-8 million all the power to them. His illness can be controlled but if he is truly a bi-polar suffer I don't see where there won't be a lapse. medications help a great deal. If he can manage to stay away from the alcohol and drugs that could also help his battle. Feeling good about yourself is important which was easy last season playing on a Trotz team. What I'm getting at is that his chances of relapse are great after two to three years especially if things go wrong in his personal or professional life. Again it depends on the severity of his illness. Myself living with bi-polar disorder and acute anxiety all it takes is one life occurrence to set things in motion one bad day becomes a bad week then a month maybe a year. The loss or illness of a loved one or any major life event can become disastrous. Where most people grieve normal a person with Bi-polar disorder can grieve intensely for prolonged periods of time. I wish him luck and all the very best, but I wouldn't bet the bank on him just as the Isles wouldn't. any multi year deal in my mind is just a risk I wouldn't take.

No read your post you said Stan had been in charge of all the CBAs crunching numbers etc. Not picking a fight but he was experienced or he wasn't when he took over is all. Sorry the original post was nighbors.

No nighbor stated that Stan over seen all of the CBAs since 2005. Read the whole post. He claimed that Stan was overly experienced in handling contracts long before he even took over.

That says it all. Thanks for making it clear that it wasn't Talon but Stan that left the team in ruins when Talon left. As well as all of the other overpaid contracts. Keep waving that Stan banner I'm sure you can win some doubters over.

Have the Hawks won a cup since T&Ks deals kicked in what has has happened in the playoffs if the Hawks even make the playoffs. I blame it totally on Stan 9.5 would have been a fair deal but that was then.

I don't see Strome playing hardball his numbers so far are that of his brother Ryan. Don't quote me on the numbers but Ryan's first RFA contract was somewhere around 2.5 over three years and just signed with the Rangers two years at 3.1. Given that smarts usually run in any family I would think Dylan would accept about 3 for three. I like the kid as well but Bowman hods the better hand.

Just crunching some numbers and Stromes up coming cap hit could be as low as 3 mil for 2-3 years of course that would be provided he put up at least the numbers he had last season. If Stan gives him any more than that will be on Stan. Cat is a bit of a different story. What is he capable of in the playoffs? does he score another 40 goal season? The regular season doesn't mean much if you're not reaching the playoffs. Looking at similar players they tend to do well in the regular season but are ineffective in the playoffs. Gudreau being a prime example. Gudreau signed a 40.5 million 6 year deal just a couple of seasons back and has yet in his career been able to bring his big numbers in the playoffs. Taking everything into consideration I believe the goal should be to sign the Cat to a similar term at 7 to 8mil a season anything more doesn't make sense. Where will the extra money come from Saad and the loss of a goalie contract is really all it should take. Saad has a modified NTC kicking in next season so if one or two of the upcoming players Kubalik, Nylander etc. can be effective even early this season the trade should be made. Besides if they're playing him on the third line money is being wasted. Gus may also go but he will only be a small saving. Smith could go tomorrow just to much money for a 3/4 line center, but I don't think he's on any teams radar obviously. All of this fear mongering over Strome and the Cat breaking the bank I feel is unwarranted if Stan does his job right. Just as he is playing hardball with Perlini. He will need only offer fair contracts giving the players what they need while protecting the financial well being of the team.

All pretty accurate. I think the money was a little high also in that there were better players. I liked much of what he brought he just didn't bring it all of the time.

Smith should never have been brought in with his contract. AA should have been traded for picks huge mistake. The Hawks shouldn't have to put out much to sign Strome to a good deal. The kid seems to be coming around but like I said Dach is likely as good as Strome already. Especially after a bit in Rockford. Like some said Entwhistle will be working hard to get that 3rd line center job and with Toews as a stalwart we can all see the leverage Stan has on the kid. The only thing that would save Strome is a 30 plus goal season. I also guarantee that if they take the Cat off of his wing you would see a lesser player. Now the mention of Cat brings us to this season to determine his worth. If he scores 40 again he will get 8 or 9. He's the type of player that likes to win so he might take a shave and a haircut on a three year deal. That's just it he may be greedy as well we don't truly know these payers we only "feel" like we do.

I was looking back at some of the Strome D-Cat fears posted. I don't see either payer that difficult to sign. The thought that many have of them needing to be over paid rest mostly on Stan's shoulders. I can't imagine that they don't wish to continue playing together. They're smart players and must know that in order to play for a good team a winning team they will need to be surrounded by good players. Sure they will get most of what they're looking for in a fair deal all the while taking a small hair cut. Smart players leave money on the table all the time now they enjoy playing where they are and they enjoy winning most of all. Strome has become less of a commodity as well with the emergence of Dach. Dach could always end up paying right wing, but the threat of him taking the second line center position could be enough to tip the scales. At any rate I think a lot of the fear around these signings next year is unwarranted and that it will be more simply of interest just to see how it all actually plays out, and to see if Stan can play it right.

Dcat and Strome need to have career seasons yet again to be worth what many think they should or will be. As a fan I'd love to see them in the running for scoring leader. If they don't and say Strome stays where he is and Cat drops it's a different story in how much they make. Cat would have an outside chance at an offer sheet but Strome even if he plays the same he will be an RFA I see him making 4 million tops. Cat will likely Pull in 6-8 depending again on his season and such. Aho signed for 8 and if Marner ever gets his thumb out of his mouth should gets something similar. What people around the league forget is that many players although good aren't Matthews and McDavid who by the way signed for a little less. The team is going to lose one of it's big money goalies and yes they maybe trade Saad. The 10-12 million it will take can easily be there without a wholesale change in the line up Believe in Stan as so many preach. It was thoughtless to take anything back for AA other than picks. In the end Stan will shave a bit off of those contracts as well by simply giving the NTC's.
