  1. 2017 IceHogs

Thought it'd be time to start the 'Hogs page as their season started tonight. A nice 4-0 SO over Cleveland. Looks like good games for Berube, Jurco, Pokka and Highmore. Nice start for the revamped franchise.
  2. 2017 IceHogs

I will say one thing about this team, they like to shoot. It seems they always have the upper hand in that regard. Fifteen shots from their first line, thirteen shots from their defense, I like the way this Colliton seems to want to play an upbeat game.
  3. 12/14 Hawks vs. Jets

Damn, missed a good one. I was too busy watching the Oilers at Rogers Place stink it up against the Preds.
  4. Hawk Moves (Real Time)

The return doesn't look to be much, he mentioned Thompson, Dzingel or Dumont. Not much better than we're carrying now.
  5. Gustav Forsling

If Pokka plays over Kempny then Q doesn’t want to move Murphy back to his natural side. But what’s the story on Rutta?
  6. Jan Rutta

Polka plays the right side I guess and Q doesn’t want to move Murphy back to his natural side now? Maybe it’s a showcase move, beats me but I don’t understand the Kempny situation either. Or maybe he’s just a spare cog right now. I don’t know Rutta’s situation, is he good to go?
  7. Gustav Forsling

I’m still hoping the big kid Dahlstrom makes it up, it really is starting to look like he’s developing well. Colliton had some good, albeit tempered, words to say about him last game. This year of development and under the tutelage of Ulf and Q he might just turn into a good asset. Both Forsling and Oesterle play too similar a game for me to think they’d be a good pairing outside of the PP maybe, although they both have great wheels. Maybe it’s just me but I still like having one big and responsible dman paired with one that’s got some giddy up.
  8. Gustav Forsling

I remember Keith being so bad defensively when he first came up several were ready to convert him into a forward. But Forsling’s improvement overall this year has been a godsend, just last night was noticeably quite a bit off. I also think Murphy is quietly starting to put together an effective season now that all the defense men are being slotted correctly. But for a team that had a lot of offence driven from the blue line our defense is sadly lacking in that now. Keith, goalless this year, is our top scoring guy being tied for 41st in dman scoring. That ain’t going to cut it. A more effective PP would help and this is where I think the transition from Keith to Forsling should be starting to happen.
  9. Zarley Zalapski passes away

Zarley played in my home town in the AJHL, he was just too good for that league. One day the Canadian National Team came calling, picked him right off the team bus the story goes. Too bad, young man.
  10. Gustav Forsling

Not ready for prime time yet, the coronation is on hold. He was all over the highlight package tonight and not in a good way. Maybe losing Rutta had something to do with it but it was a bit of a stinker.
  11. Jan Rutta

Maybe we'll see how much Rutta will be missed after all after leaving this game. Maybe carrying 8 defensemen makes sense for the first time this season.
  12. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

    Needs some Ricky Vaughn glasses.
  13. 2017 IceHogs

Never seen him play but the points are there and if you listen to Colliton's pressers, he speaks pretty highly of him, But Colliton seems really impressed with Kampf and had some pretty good words about Dahlstrom too. Sounds like the big Swede just needs to tighten it up on the consistency first but he's got the tools I guess.
  14. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

I was making a joke about his blocked shots. I think I saw at least 3 alone on one PP. It's uncanny how he never misses a shinpad.
  15. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

At least tonight the big contracts did what they were supposed to do. And kudos to the 4th line which never takes a shift off, and of course, CC, another good game.
  16. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

    What about his other shifts?
  17. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

Funny, but I see Kruger and TVR both got their first goals tonight for the 'Canes. Boy, sure do miss that offense.
  18. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

They won but still it somehow feels hollow. It just seems like a couple of good plays here and there are just masking the deeper problems.
  19. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

No but he makes up for it by taking a 2 minute shift later.
  20. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

Hawks haven't been gold in OT. What happens tonight? I just don't want one of those overly long selfish shifts that end up with the puck behind Corey.
  21. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

Yes they do. You'd think their effort would defibrillate the heart in the other lines into action, but sadly, no.
  22. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

Yup, that brutal turnover tells me Forsling is ready to take Keith's spot. Learn from the best.
  23. 12/12 Hawks vs Panthers

Since I missed the first couple of periods, please tell me that they looked better than this crap I'm watching now. What a totally lacklustre effort. And how is it Hayden only gets 5 minutes a game now, he's one of the few you actually notice when he's on the ice.
  24. 2017 IceHogs

Nice little run of wins for the Hogs of late. It’s interesting to see Carl Dahlstrom take the lead in defense men scoring as well as being a +10. Only Norell at +11, his partner I presume, is better. At 22 and 100 games into his N.A. career, where does he fit in? He’s certainly big and seems to be developing well, but is he being overlooked as an option for promotion some day?
  25. 12/08 Hawks vs Sabres

In fairness he did set Panik up with a perfect pass in the slot that had no leeway for being off. Only a great save kept Panik from not breaking his slump. But overall, I think Toews is feeling the ire of the fans and sometimes tries to do the hero play instead of the smart play.
