  1. Stan As Gm

    Your right. My bad
  2. Stan As Gm

Your blurring which GM made which decisions. Sure Tallon built a cup winner with some good trades and high high draft picks. But he also put the team in such a horrible cap spot with signing Huet and Campbell, and forgetting to tender offers to Barker and Versteeg that the cup winning team had to be blown up. Hind sight is 20/20 on how that blow up should have gone. Personally I think trading Sharp would have been a huge mistake.

MVR, all good points. I am not criticizing the people that Stan moved out, I think he did what he had to and surprisingly got a good amount for them considering people knew HE HAD to move people. I am mostly questioning who he has brought in and showed confidence in to extended. Guys like Brunette, Montador, Crawford, and Frolik. I see those guys as being worthless contracts. Brunette will be off the books so its no big deal. But Montador is unmovable and so is Frolik and Crow. Those 3 combined make up darn near 8 million a season. If the goal was to get under the cap in anticipation of the new CBA then why make those deals? If your trying to get the most for Campbell and your willing to take a 3.5 million hit like Olesz (I am aware not against the cap but its still a financial hit) then why not drop Campbell to the minors and trade him on re-entry waivers. Sure no one is going to give you a lot for a highly over paid D man, but Campbell at 3.5 just about anyone would take and probably give you good value.

I have to say if Stan's last name was not Bowman he would probably be gone after this year. I thought he did a good job with moving guys out when the cap issues hit. Got pretty good value for Versteeg, Sopel, Buf, and Ladd. But since then I have not really been a fan of his moves. Trading away Campbell was dumb. I understand his contract was bloated and put them in a bit of a bind but he got back nothing in return. He got back 3.5 million in Olesz who they just dumped in the minors. If the team is willing to dump 3.5 million why not send Campbell to the minors and bring him back up at half the cost...at 3.5 million people would pay a good amount for Campbell. Also, that 7 million in cap space was used poorly. Frolik 2.5 million, guy never plays. Montador 4 years at 2.5 or 2.7 guy never plays. Brunette 2 million big bust. The money he "saved" by trading away Campbell was used so poorly I would rather just have campbell at 7 million.
